The Side Swing Oven

I burned myself pretty good about 2 weeks ago while baking some broccoli crowns in the oven. While testing the broccoli with a fork, my finger hit the above baking rack. Hopefully the scar will go away, but the scar in my mind will forever linger about that oven. It is a standard range, but the angle is ergonomically incorrect. It is a pain to bend down to get something out of a cabinet, but especially when that object is cooking at 350 degrees.
Most of my clients are choosing wall ovens over the standard range. Even with this option, one must reach over the oven door to transfer food, or stand to either side and transfer in an uncomfortable side twist position.
Several years ago a few manufacturers such as Gaggenau introduced a side swing oven. This was a genius answer for Universal designers. The Gaggenau side swing retails for almost $5,000. Which is why I was pleased to find Fagor, an appliance manufacturer based in Spain has a side swing for $850 and also Frigidaire offers a side swing for $850 also.
Now that we have an attainable choice of side swing or standard wall ovens, I will surely be telling my clients about all their options, because comfort goes hand in hand with good design.
